Using the Washington Metro + Shuttle
The University of Maryland is next to the College Park/U of MD stop of the Green Line of the Metro of Washington, D.C.
The university’s Shuttle-UM buses pick up university-bound passengers on the east side of the station. (The university has multiple shuttle bus routes, but this is the only one that leaves from the College Park Metro station. For a schedule, refer to the 104 College Park Metro shuttle schedule posted on the Shuttle-UM website.) Get off the Shuttle-UM at the M(the first campus stop). Walk west along Campus Drive (up the hill, going straight at the M traffic circle) and the Hornbake building will be the second building on your right just past the M.
Using the Shuttle might take 10 minutes, but sometime 30 min… so plan ahead.
You can also walk from the metro station to HCIL, which will takes about 30 minutes. Make sure to exit by the West exit (turning to the right toward a tunnel under the track after exiting the gates)
Directions to Regents Parking Garage
- From Route 1, turn onto Campus Drive. Follow Campus Drive until the traffic circle around the M.
- Take the first right off of the traffic circle onto Regents Drive. Take the next left onto Field House Drive.
- Regents Drive Garage will be on your right. To get direction to the Regent Parking Garage, route to 1997 Field House Dr, College Park.
There is visitor parking on the top floor of the garage. Remember your parking space number (you need it to pay when you park, and later to add more time if needed). Parking is $3.00/hr ($15/day maximum on weekdays.) (Warning: The parking pay machines are fairly poorly designed, and it is easier to pay with a credit card.) From the top floor, take the stairs or elevator to the third floor, then walk across the pedestrian bridge that connects the Regents Drive Garage to Hornbake Plaza.
Directions to the Building
The HCIL is in the Hornbake Classroom Building (south wing). Don’t go into the actual library part—you’ll need to go into the entrance at the side of the building facing the Campus Drive. If you take the elevator to the second floor, walk through the large glass doors—the lab and offices are to the right and left.
